|Death: ||Jan. 16, 1946, Belgium|
John was a native of Wichita, Kansas and graduated from Wichita High School.
He voluntarily enlisted in the Army in March 1943 and was part of Company B, 394th Infantry Regiment, 99th Infantry Division. He was killed in action on 15 Jan 1946 during the Battle of the Bulge. After the war his remains had not been found and the Army deemed them not recoverable.
On 3 July 1992 his remains were found by two Belgians working on the MIA Project who were searching for the remains of US servicemen still listed as missing. It took from 1992 until 2005 for the US government to make a positive ID on the remains and turn them over to his sister, Helen Joann Bowman who was his only surviving sibling. She decided to have him intured at Ardennes American Cemetery. She also placed a bronze rosette next to his name on the wall of the missing signafying he was no longer missing. He was burried on 18 June 2005, 6 decades after his death.
