Born Robert Edgar Randall, he was a popular character performer who appeared in over 135 films between 1921 and 1975. In his mid-20s, he started doing bit parts for Universal and Fox studios and went to roles for MGM. His real success came playing masked hero and cowboy roles for Republic Films during the 1930s and 1940s. His film credits include "The Three Mesquiteers" (1936), "The Bold Caballero" (1936), "The Lone Ranger Rides Again" (1939), "Dakota" (1945) and "The Feathered Serpent" (1948). For television, he appeared on "The Cisco Kid", "The Gene Autry Show", "Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok", "Stories of the Century" and "The Lone Ranger". He died of emphysema at age 83.
