SPRINGFIELD - Charles L. Aiken, 76, died July 21, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Junction.He was born in Springfield on July 21, 1925, the son of Ernest and Bessie (Jackman) Aiken. He attended schools in Perkinsville and Ascutney.He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Fleet.He made his home in Texas for many years and later lived in Quincy, Mass., for a number of years.He married Janice Wentworth in Quincy on Nov. 11, 1966.For the past 15 years, he and his wife have lived in Springfield.He worked at the Country Girl Diner in Chester for several years.He was a member of the Perkinsville Community Church.He was a life member of both the Robert L. Johnson Post 771, VFW, in Springfield, and American Legion Post 67 in Chester. He served as past chaplain of the Springfield VFW. He was also a member of Springfield Moose Lodge 679, and the Weymouth, Mass., Eagles and was an active member of the Springfield Senior Center.Survivors include his wife of Springfield; three sons, two daughters, three brothers, six grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by a daughter, Devonie Aiken; a brother, Paul Aiken; a half-brother, Ralph Aiken, and a half-sister, Pearl Roby.The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Davis Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Harry L. Peatt, pastor of the Perkinsville Community Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph.
