Funeral services for Mary J. Adsit, 88, of Warren, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Memorial Home at Warren.

Mrs. Adsit died at 8:50 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at the home, where she had been a resident since 1989.

Visitation hours are today form 2 to 8 p.m. at the United Methodist Memorial Home. Pastor Kathie Jones will officiate and burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Warren.

Mrs. Adsit was born at Bluffton Jan. 26, 1913 to Earl Rider and Mart Etta Hanna McFarren. Her marriage at Warren on Sept. 8, 1931 was to Hiram Barnes Adsit, who died March 26, 1946.

She was a 1931 graduate of Salamonie Township High School.

Mrs. Adsit was active in the Women's Group, Alpha Class and Bible Student Class at the Warren United Methodist Church, of which she was a member. She was a charter member of the Las Amigas Club and Salamonie Area Historical Society. She was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary and War Mothers of World War II.

She was a past president of Sigma Phi and Beta Delta Chapter former in 1946. She served as welfare secretary in organizing Warren's first Cub Scout Troop and worked with scouting for more than 20 years. She was awarded a certificate from the Tomahawk District. Mrs. Adsit served as secretary of Alpha Province of Sigma Phi Gamma International Society.
Mrs. Adsit was employed from 1930 at McFarren's 5-cent to $1 Store and succeeded her parents as manager until the store was sold in 1959. She also worked for Gold Seal Drug & Gift Shop and also as Warren town clerk from 1960 to 1964 and as deputy clerk until 1977, where she retired.

Surviving are a son, Hiram B Jr., of Plainfield, Ill; a daughter, Mary Emma Holmes of Van Buren; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A brother is deceased.
