Lewis Wolgast, 81, of Gold Hill, died Monday, June 28, 2010, at Providence Hospital. Lewis was born to Max and Rose Wolgast on June 19, 1929 in Dryden, Michigan. He married Jane Ribble, of Metamora, Michigan, on October 10, 1952.

Lewis served in the U.S. Army from 1948-1950 and then attended General Motors Tech in Flint, Mich., for engineering. After his marriage to Jane, they moved to Lapeer, Mich., where they owned a dairy farm and raised their five children.

In 1979 the family moved to Gold Hill, Ore., where their children and their families also settled down. Lewis enjoyed carpentry, hunting, fishing, and spent much of his time outdoors. He was known for his great sense of humor and had many close friends. Lewis was the youngest of ten children and was dearly loved by all of his nieces and nephews. Lewis was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife Jane; four children, Craig (Stephanie) Wolgast, Renee (Steve) Hefley, Jerry (Caroline) Wolgast, and Eric Wolgast; eight grandchildren, Jason, Chelsea, Wyatt, Chad, Carsey, Jordan, Logan and Sammi; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Howard. He is also survived by his sister, Maxine Wolgast, and his brother-in-law James Ribble. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rosi Costello, two brothers, and six sisters.
