Elizabeth Ford, Formerly on UW Faculty, Dies
Madison Feb 1, 1956: Elizabeth Merle Ford, 52, former University of Wisconsin faculty member and expert in textiles, was found dead in he apartment Tuesday night.
Coroner Stanley Larson said Miss Ford apparently died about two weeks ago of a rare blood ailment which is characterized by the blood's failure to coagulate. She had been ill for some time.
Her body was found by a maintenance man who was summoned by neighbors when they noticed her mail was piling up.
In 1948 Miss Ford won $25,000 and a new automobile in a nationally broadcast quiz program in which the name of a person whose voice was recorded was speaking a jingle. She guessed the voice as belonging to Jeanette MacDonald, singer and actress.
*** Merle also won a drop-leave table and two couches (red plaid). The table now belongs to John Wesley Ford, her great-nephew. He came to him through his beloved Great Aunt Gladys, Merle's sister.
