LaVeda Vickers Roper-Cox was born on July 24, 1941, in Rotan, TX. She grew up on a ranch, and was an avid rider and barrel racer. She attended Seminole High School, where she enjoyed cheerleading by the nickname "Skeeter." LeVeda pursued a distinguished career in law enforcement, rising to the rank of detective in the Midland, TX, Police Department. She then contributed several years as an administrator and educator to the Cherokee Nation. She then returned to law enforcement, devoting many years of service in the administration of the Capital Police Division of the Texas Department of Public Safety in Austin, TX. While in Austin, she met her husband, Major Franklin Dwayne Cox (Ret.). The couple moved to Kansas City in 2002. She delighted in all things of beauty, particularly those found in nature and in her garden. She treasured the company of family and friends. She smiled endlessly, and had a kind word for all whom she met. LeVeda is welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Nell Vickers Roach and A.A. "Whitney" Vickers. She is survived by her beloved husband, Franklin; and her son and his wife, Joe and Mindy Roper. She is also survived by sister Clo Vickers Sooter. Funeral services will be held at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 4, 2004. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. (Arr. Mt. Moriah and Freeman, 816-942-2004)
