He was a former mayor of Salina and city commissioner. He was a member of the Downtown Lions Club, Masonic Lodge 60, Salina Scottish Rite Consistory and a 32 degree mason and member of the ISIS Shrine, all of Salina. He was a board member for the Salvation Army in Salina and a member of the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce. He had served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a retired lieutenant colonel in the United States Army Reserve and graduated from the Army Command and General Staff College.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, of the home; three sons, Larry J. and David K., both of Salina, and Daniel E. of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; and five grandchildren.
