Robert Beck Burkinshaw was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on January 7, 1930.

The son of Horace Spencer Burkinshaw and Zola Beck, he was reared and began his elementary education in the Draper Park School, where his grandfather, Reid Beck, was the principal. He graduated from Jordan High School in 1948 and attended the University of Utah.

Robert and Joyce Bateman were united in marriage on September 22, 1950 in Elko, Nevada and were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They established their home in Midvale, where Bob worked at U.S. Refining and Mining Company while attending the University of Utah.

Along with his grandfather, father, and brother, he also operated the Burk Theater and the Ute Drive-In. He later was employed at Kennecott Copper's Bingham Canyon Mine, where he worked for thirty-two years, retiring in 1982.

Following his retirement from Kennecott, he had his own business servicing Postal Service vehicles. He also founded and operated Yosemite Transit van line providing transportation to Bingham Canyon for Kennecott employees. His enterprise was recognized with the 1980 "Citizen Participation Award" from the Environmental Protection Agency, which was presented by actor and environmentalist Robert Redford.

Bob was a loyal husband and a dedicated father known for his work ethic and generosity to others. He was an Elder in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He passed away on Tuesday evening, December 31, 2013, just seven days shy of age eighty-four, from the effects of Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Midvale; sons, Jeffrey R. (Stacey) of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Mark S. (Wendy) of Houston, Texas; daughters, Laurie Baker (Larry) of Pleasant Grove and J. Robyn Burkinshaw of Salt Lake City; daughter-in-law, Vicky Burkinshaw of Mesa, Arizona; ten granddaughters, eight grandsons, and twenty great-grandchildren; brother, Reid Spencer (Beverly) Burkinshaw of Paradise, California; and sister, Willda Kay Kit (Harry) of Dewey, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, R. Kim Burkinshaw; and sister, Lottie Ann Peterson.

A viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2014 at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State Street (100 East), and at 10:00 a.m. in the Relief Society Room of the Midvale East Stake Center, 240 East 7570 South, on Saturday, January 4, 2014, followed by the funeral at 11:00 a.m.
Interment: Midvale City Cemetery.
