Simeon Randolph Drake was born on Sept. 6, 1841 at Washington Valley, Somerset, New Jersey to Randolph Drake and Jane Elizabeth Fitz-Randolph. Simeon served as a Corporal in Company E 47 Illinois U.S. Infantry during the Civil War. Simeon joined on Aug. 16, 1861 from Peoria, Illinois. He was enlisted by Capt. Baker at age 21 for a period of three (3) years. His description is as follows; Single, 5'10", Brown Hair, Gray Eyes, Light Complexion, Occupation; Farmer, Residence; Delavan, Tazewell Co, IL. He was discharged for wounds on Oct. 9, 1863. He married Martha Mason Cheever on June 29, 1865 at Delavan, Tazewell, Illinois. Simeon Randolph Drake died on Dec. 30, 1904 at Western Springs, Cook County, Illinois. Simeon was buried at Plankinton, Aurora County, South Dakota.
