"Mrs. D. M. Deason Taken by Death - Mrs. D. M. Deason died suddenly yesterday (2 Jul 1940) morning at 9:10 o'clock at her home at 1611 Fillmore Street. She had been in failing health for several months but was apparently in good health early yesterday morning.
She was stricken suddenly with acute indigestion and died about an hour after the attack. She was 82 years old.
Mrs. Deason had been a resident of Amarillo for 31 years. She was a member of the Polk Street Methodist Church. She was a member of the Browning Sunday School Class of the Polk Street Methodist Church.
She was born Aug. 24, 1857 in Macon County, Georgia, the daughter of a prominent planter of that state. The family came to Texas soon after the Civil War.
She was married to Daniel Marion Deason, a Confederate veteran, Dec. 17, 1874, at Pineola, Tex., at a double wedding in which her twin sister was married to Sam Johnson.
The family came to Amarillo in 1909 from Timpson, Tex. Mr. Deason was employed at the Santa Fe Roundhouse as toolkeeper for many years. He died here six years ago.
Mrs. Deason is survived by two sons, Walter Deason of Amarillo, and Ross M. Deason of St. Paul, Minn.; two daughters, mrs. H. M. Timmons and Miss Llewellyn Deason, both of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren, Joe Deason, Walter H. Deason, Miss Martha Nell Deason, Miss Alice Timmons and Paul Timmons, all of Amarillo, Mrs. Aubrey Key of Corpus Christi, Mrs. Frank Chapman of Los Angeles, Cal., Herman and Dorothy Deason, both of St. Paul, Minn., and David Deason of New York City; and five great grandchildren.
The body is in state at the N. S. Griggs and Sons Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have not been completed pending the arrival of relatives."
