JOSEPH PENNINGTON DIES
Illness of Two Years Fatal to High Point Farmer
Joseph E. Pennington, 87 years old died at the home of his son, Moses, two miles north of High Point on Highway 87, Thursday evening, April 4 after an illness of several years. Mr. Pennington suffered a stroke of paralysis two years ago, and a second stroke last November. Sunday March 31 he suffered a third stroke the effects of which were fatal. He had lived with his son for 13 years.
Mr. Pennington had been a resident of this county since about 1872 when he and his brother, John, came here from Newton County, Kentucky. He was born there November 22, 1847. The two brothers settled near California and in 1887 Mr. Pennington married Elizabeth Smith. Eight children were born to this union two of whom and their mother, preceded him in death. The six who survive him are Moses, Albert of California, Walter of Clarksburg, Herbert of Santa Anna, California, Mrs. Jennie Wilson of High Point, and Mrs. Hettie Shaffer of Anaheim, California. Sixteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren also survive him. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the High Point Christian church with the Rev. Alexander of Eldon officiating. Mr. Pennington had been a member of the Union Christian Church for many years. Burial was at Flag Springs.
Pallbearers were Coley B. Carr, Charles Jones, Horace Dutcher, Clint Beach, E.L. Hall and Hilton Douglas.
