Richard Francis Connelly Jr. (Columbia)
COLUMBIA - Richard Francis Connelly Jr., 69, of Columbia and formerly of Frostburg, died Monday, June 26, 2006, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick.
Born Sept. 15, 1936, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Richard F. Connelly Sr. and Georgia (Wilhelm) Connelly-Scarpelli. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary V. "Ginger" (Shirey) Connelly on Jan. 30, 2001.
Mr. Connelly was a Catholic, and he was a member of the American Legion.
He served in the U.S. Army in Korea and Vietnam as a Master Sergeant where he earned the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Award and the Purple Heart. Mr. Connelly formerly worked for the N.S.A. and designed the communication system for the space shuttle. He retired as CEO of Materials Consultants International.
Surviving are one daughter, Carol Church and husband Boyd, Boonsboro; one son, Richard C. Connelly, Martinsburg, W.Va.; and eight grandchildren, Sienna, Arianna, Savannah, Breannah, Shyannah, Jaime, Thomas, and Brandee.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home P.A. 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 44 E. Main St., Frostburg, on Saturday at 11 a.m. with by Rev. Father Ed Hendricks as celebrant.
Military honors will be accorded in the courtyard following the Mass by members of Farrady Post 24 American Legion Honor Guard.
Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery on July 26, 2006, at 3 p.m.
