Birth: Dec. 29, 1843
Mississippi, USA
Death: Jun. 30, 1918
Canyon County
Idaho, USA

Ezer Evans was born 1843 in Holly Springs, Mississippi to James Evans (ca1821-1862) and Susan Butler (ca1821-1895). The James Evans family left Mississippi by 1850 and are in Trigg Co. KY near other family members. They made a stop in Tenn. also, before settling in Hickory Co. Missouri by 1860.

While in Missouri, Ezer met Mary Ellen McKay. She was one of eleven children born to Andrew Jackson McKay (1822-1877) and Susannah Walden (1824-1887). Ezer and Mary Ellen married in Hickory County, MO in 1864 and were the parents of 16 children, born in Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, and Oregon. They had three children, George, John and Andrew, before moving to Kansas by 1870. Then, children born in Kansas were: Laura, Ezra, Thomas, Bertha, Charles, and Sarah.

The Evans headed west on the Oregon Trail, and their wagon train left Coffeyville, Montgomery County, Kansas in 1879. They traveled through Colorado and Utah and stopped a short time in Nevada to work and earn money to continue the journey. The family then settled in Wallowa County, Oregon near Joseph, in the summer of 1880. Children born to Ezer and Mary Ellen in Oregon were: James, Taylor, Willis, Edwin, Frank and Susan.

From Oregon, the Evans family went to Idaho and settled in Canyon County, where they remained. Ezer died in 1918, and Mary Ellen died in 1926. Ezer always wore a long beard. He grew the beard to hide the scars that he received in his earlier days in Missouri. Family tradition tells that Ezer was shot in an Indian battle, while traveling, having just left Missouri.
