US Army Helicopter Pilot.

WO1 Walding served with Headquarters battery, 4th Bn, 77th Artillery, 101st Airborne Division.

On the night of March 3, 1970 he was pilot of a UH-1H helicopter (tail number 68-15571) belonging to Headquarters Battery, 4/77, and assigned to fly a security detail from Camp Evans to LZ Sally. The aircraft departed Camp Evans and was observed by infantry in the field to be flying southwest toward a ridge. The aircraft crashed into the ridge resulting in the loss of all aboard.

"Jared was a pilot who died in a helicopter crash in Vietnam, unrelated to combat. He was a 1966 graduate of Baker High School, Columbus, Georgia. He is buried near his friend, Sgt Allen Hayes Caldwell, killed in combat in Vietnam a few months before Jared's death. We all went to high school together, and many of us mourned our friends'... deaths."
