He was the husband of Merriel (Andrews) Gillan, and the late Alice C. (McNally) Gillan. Born in Providence, a son of the late William E. Gillan II and Julianna (Cybulski) Gillan Lebeau, he had been a resident of North Kingstown since 1955.
Mr. Gillan was executive vice president of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Rhode Island, retiring in 1991 after 45 years. He was a member of the Data Processing Managers Association.
He was involved with North Kingstown Pop Warner football and Little League baseball, and was an avid Providence College basketball fan. He was a communicant of St. Bernard Church.
Mr. Gillan was a Marine Corps veteran.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, William M. Gillan of Hoover, Ala.; two daughters, Cynthia A. Gillan of Dedham, Mass., and JoAnn P. Gillan of North Kingstown; a sister, Judith Sears of Warwick; and three grandchildren. He was the father of the late Michael J. Gillan.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. from Fagan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Rd., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Bernard Church, 415 Tower Hill Rd. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery.
