Described as friendly and outgoing by both neighbors and teachers, Sandra was a much loved child who should have lived a long healthy life. Her aunt described her as fun-loving, full of energy and full of life. She loved to color, garden and cook. She loved Hannah Montana and liked to go around singing "Best of Both Worlds." At age 4, she went to Disneyland with her family and wanted to ride the Matterhorn as soon as they arrived. She and her sister screamed the whole ride, got off and wanted to do it again. She had just celebrated her 8th birthday on March 8. There are plenty of pictures which show her at her birthday party with big smiles and showing off some of her presents. According to news sources, on March 27, "she came home from school, kissed her mother and left to play with a friend who lives a couple of homes away." Surveillance video of her neighborhood shows her skipping happily along as she was inclined to do. On April 6, her family was devastated to learn that her body had been discovered in a nearby location. She had been murdered by the mother of her playmate. The employees of and students at Melville S. Jacobson Elementary School, where Sandra was a second-grader, were also shocked and deeply saddened by the news. Jessica Cardoza, a spokeswoman for the Tracy Unified School District said, "Sandra was a very well-known and very well-loved member of the Jacobson school family. She was happy and full of life each day."
