Son of John Wyand and Louisa Turney.

Joined the Dayton Union Guards in Armstrong County, PA in May 1861. The unit disbanded by July 1861.

Recruited by Captain Samuel Bernard Dick, enlisted and was mustered in as a PRIVATE as part of the Ninth Pennsylvania Reserve Corps, Company F on 1 JUL 1861 at Camp Wright by Lieutenant Thomas Brent Swearingen. Mustered into federal service at Camp Jackson, Washington, DC on 28 JUL 1861 by Lieutenant John Elwood, 5th U.S. Infantry.

He contracted typhoid fever on or about 19 DEC 1861 and sent to the Union Hospital, Georgetown, DC. Transferred at some time to Seminary Hospital, Georgetown, DC.

Died on 17 MAY 1862 at Seminary Hospital, Georgetown, DC.

Henry Gyger desired to exhume the body at return it to the soldier's hometown, however, Surgeons Smith and Kennedy of the Seminary Hospital advised against this as "the body was too far gone to be removed."

He participated in the following campaign: Dranesville.
