Fifth Sergeant in Company A, 9th Pennsylvania Reserves.
Offered a commission as Captain in the 155th Pennsylvania Infantry; however, he refused it in order to remain with his company and regiment.
He was wounded slightly in the arm at the battle of South Mountain on 14 SEP 1862.
