|Birth: ||1745, Ireland|
|Death: ||Nov., 1829|
John married Mary Prescott who was born January 4, 1746 in Ireland. They had four children when they set sail for America; James, Mary, Nancy and Margaret. Their youngest child, John Prescott, was born on the ship "Volunteer" on the way to America.
John was fleeing from Ireland so that he might enjoy the liberty of conscience that was forbidden him by the High Church of England. He landed in Charleston, South Carolina, and settled in Pickens County. He afterward moved to Tennessee and settled at the foot of the Cumberland Mountains. He remained there for two or three years, but moved back to South Carolina and from there to Georgia and settled in Hall County.
John was married twice. His second wife's maiden name was Long. They had one child, Margery, and she married Mark Bennett, a brother of Hester Bennett, who married John Prescott Brooke.
