Jack Dean Kessinger was the son of Jesse Earl and Effie Augusta (Cooper) Kessinger. He was their fifth child of six children. Jack and Evelyn Marie Osborn were married on September 7, 1947 in Dodge City, Kansas. They met at a Methodist Youth Fellowship meeting in Manhattan, KS while both were attending Kansas State University and fell in love. After college, they made their home near Mulvane, KS where their four children (Mark, Karin, Cathy, James) graduated from the Mulvane High School.

Jack served his county during World War II as a Private First Class in the Army and received the Purple Heart. He was trained as a Scout. Jack worked for Beech Aircraft from 1952 until 1970 when he became a social worker with the State of Kansas Child Protective Services, where he retired in 1988. Jack was an active and faithful member of the United Methodist Church. He moved to Colorado in August 2004 and lived near his daughter Cathy until his death from a stroke. Jack loved to garden and grew the biggest, best tomatoes you ever ate!
