|Birth: ||May 18, 1919|
|Death: ||May 28, 2009|
With her husband of 68 years by her side, M. Beverly Martens Gomien passed away Thursday (May 28, 2009) in Springfield.
She was born 90 years ago, and she would spend her youth in rural McLean County in Anchor. Here, she would meet Robert Gomien and they married on July 27, 1940.
Through this marriage, they reared three daughters, Carol, Janis and Lisa (husband, Gary Wakefield) and welcomed four grandchildren, Bobby, Kelen (fiance, Nicholas Cox), Caran, and David.
"Bette" was preceded in her death by her two sisters, Muriel and LaMoyne, and her granddaughter and namesake, Margaret.
Her family was her mainstay and she anchored it with her gifts of intelligence, patience, strength and with many talents. Bette was an artist, a seamstress, a poet, a hostess, a good neighbor and an even better friend. She was blessed with beauty, poise and grace.
But her life and her love belonged to her husband, Bob, and that love would last nearly 70 years and travel with them to seven continents.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 221 N. 11th St., Springfield 62703.
