Jack David Dickinson
Jack David Dickinson, 82, of Sumiton, a former resident of Forestdale for 55 years, died Sunday Nov. 19, 2006.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home with burial with full military honors at McCormack Cemetery. Dr. E. Lynn Wilson will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home is directing.
Mr. Dickinson was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church in Sayre. He was retired from the United States Army with 23 years of service. He served in World War II with tours in the South Pacific, Korea and Europe. He was an instructor for the Air Borne School and the R.O.T.C. He attended Jacksonville State College. He taught R.O.T.C for Phillips and Ensley High Schools. He was owner and manager of Woody's Restaurant in Forestdale for 18 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, June Wood Dickinson.
He is survived by his daughters, Jackie Flo Dickinson York and her husband, Charles, of Linns Crossing, and Jennifer K. Dickinson Fetner of Inverness; grandchildren Juan Lacey, Tammy Walters, Chae York and Tori Fetner; great-grandchildren, Jordyn Lacey and Tyler Thomas; sister-in-law, Jean Godfrey; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
