*The Turners are my family, which is why I don't choose to transfer them to any of you cousins, but I'm sure glad to meet you!*

Captain in the Virginia Militia under General Greene. His mother, Kerenhappuch Norman Turner, rode horseback from home to North Carolina and nursed him (? or son-in-law or grandson) back from near fatal injuries suffered at Guilford Battleground. She did the same for many others both before and after and is one of just three Patriot Mothers to have statues erected to them; hers is at Guilford Courthouse, North Carolina.

As noted below, Captain James Turner, Junior had just one daughter, Winifred (Winnefred Speight Turner Sandford buried in this same cemetery), and I know nothing about Mary Turner Lumbley and was not the person who added her into this family. Since James Turner did not marry until 1771, I don't see him having had a daughter in 1760.

(his Grandfather Morehead married James & Kerenhappuch Turner's daughter Mary), 1915:

>>James Turner married Miss Keren-Happuch Norman, and from them our family relations had their origin. I have a recollection of my great-grandmother Keren-Happuch Turner who died in North Carolina at the advanced age of 115 years. James and Keren-Happuch Turner had as I remember, one son and four daughters, namely: James, Sarah, Mary, Elizabeth and Susan.

James Turner, the son of James Turner and Keren-Happuch Turner, married a Miss Wyatt of North Carolina. His second wife was a Miss Irby. He had three sons and one daughter: James, William, Anthony I., and Winifred Turner.<<

Updated marriage info from Rosemary Nordstrom, #48026941:

>>I believe James's first wife was Elizabeth (Betty) Speight, daughter of William
and Abigail Speight of Wake Co NC. I have a marriage bond for James Turner and
Elizabeth Speight (dated December 9, 1771); she is mentioned as "Betty Turner" in her father's 1774 will,
but by the time her mother dies in 1781, Betty is obviously dead because Abigail
mentions her other daughters but not Betty - but Abigail DOES mention her
granddaughter "Winnifred Turner." I think the Wyatt/Myatt confusion may have
come about because one of Betty Speight Turner's sisters married a Myatt.<<
