Charles was born near Prescott, Ontario, Canada. His parents were working their way from New York. after coming from England to the USA. They soon moved to Sheboygan, Wisc. where he grew to manhood. There he met Laura Ann Blacker. on Sept. 21,1870, they were married at Waukon, IO. They were blessed with one son, Charles Wesley, & 3 daughters, Cora Fern, Iva Pearl & Ina.
They lived at Waukon, Iowa, but left there when the Indian raids got so bad. One particular time there was a terrible Indian raid. They headed for the fort, driving night & day to get away.
In 1876 they joined up with the family in a 7 wagon - wagon train & headed for Kansas. Those making the trip were: John & Elizabeth (Ader) Justice & children; James & Louisa Bowles, with Leonard & Frances ( their youngest) & their older children - Clint & Annie (Bowles)Blacker, with Frank & Nellie; Bill & Janie (Bowles) Bonn; Charles H. & Annie (Blacker) Bowles & Charles Wesley.
They took their cattle with them & drove a team of oxen. Along the way they traded the oxen for a team of horses.
They moved to Jewell County, KS, & took up Government land in Calvin Township.. Lived there for 10 years, then moved to Brownscreek township.
