His wife died on January 28, 1875 about two weeks after the birth of Johanne. He then married Catherine Elise Bachmann on October 15, 1875, with whom he had a son, Christian Beisser. After his death in 1876, Catherine, who had been in contact with Georg's brother, Reverend Gottlieb Beisser in Ohio, USA, arranged for the oldest two children, Christine and Georg, Jr., to go to Ohio to live with their uncle. The others were too small to travel that distance alone. Later, in 1889, another child, Friedrich, joined his Uncle Gottlieb in America.
