Frank ran Scharfenbergs', a men's clothing store at 201 E. Main Street, for 44 years. During and after World War II, he wrote to people in the armed forces. He created the column "A Letter From Home", (later entitled "Streator Sidelights") in the Streator newspaper, telling only "good news". In total 1,150 columns were printed, the last being on Feb. 7, 1966. He was highly praised for more than 21,000 letters and columns mailed. His scrapbooks are at the Historical Society.
