Mr. Shepherd was a native of Union County, and a World War II Veteran of the U. S. Army. Mr. Shepherd lived in this area for most of his life, and had attended Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. He was a member of Young Cane Masonic Lodge, F & AM.GA,.
Surviving are his wife, rms. Nellie Ruth Shepherd, of the home; a son, Johnny Shepherd, of the Dial Community; daughter, Birdie Lynn Chambers, of Murphy, North Carolina; three sisters: Willanell Nix, and Inez Helton both of Ellijay, Georgia, and Geneva Bryson, of Blairsville; six grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 8, 1995 at 4:00 p.m. from the Chapel of the Funeral Home with Rev. Horace Potts officiating. Special music was presented by Susie Phillips, Louise DeLong and Sarah Kelley. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Coby Shepherd, Kenneth Bryson, Roger Helton, Greg Worley, Ward Bryson, and Billy Nix. Interment was in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.
