Civil War Union Soldier. He was enrolled in the 1st New Jersey Volunteer Cavalry on August 15, 1861, and was mustered in as a Private in Company F on August 23, 1861. He served through the length of the war after his enlistment, being promoted to Corporal on July 20, 1862, and to Sergeant on March 1, 1864. He had re-enlisted on December 25, 1863, and was honorably mustered out on July 24, 1865.
