Enlisted on 3/28/1862 at Fredericksburg for a $50 Enlistment Bounty, he was mustered into "H" Co. VA 47th Infantry as a Private.
Absent, Sick May & June and July & Aug 1862 Rolls; hospitalized Richmond, VA.
Promoted to Corporal (date not given).
Hospitalized with chronic rheumatism 7/8/1864 - 8/25/1864 in Chimborazo Hospital #5, Richmond, VA.
Present, on 12/31/1864 final Roll.
Paroled 5/3/1865 Bowling Green, VA.
In 6/1900, age 67, living in Caroline County, he applied for a Confederate partial disability pension due to rheumatism; he was approved for $15.
In 8/1902, living in Essex County, he applied for full disability; he was approved.
In 4/1909 he applied for admittance into the Robert E. Lee Camp Soldiers' Home, Richmond, VA, due to "infirmity of age".
He was approved 4/26/1909, admitted 5/4/1909, and died there, just 22 days later.
The 47th Infantry Regiment was formed in June, 1861, with men recruited in Caroline, Middlesex, Essex, and Stafford counties. During February, 1865, the 47th and 55th Regiments were consolidated. (bio by: BigFrench)
