(2nd) Company K, 47th Virginia Infantry, Barton's Brigade, G.W.C. Lee's Division, 3rd Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A.
Residence Caroline County VA; a 22 year-old Farmer.
Enlisted on 7/9/1861, he was commissioned into "K" Co. VA 47th Infantry as a 1st Lieutenant.
On rolls 1/1/1862.
Absent, sick 6/30/1862 Richmond, VA.
On rolls 8/31/1862.
Wounded 12/13/1862 Fredericksburg, VA in right arm, amputated; shot through the body on his right side.
Detailed 4/29/1864 as enrolling officer in Henry & Cumberland Counties, VA.
He was retired to the Invalid corps on 4/27/1864 but never received the orders.
At end of war he was serving as a member of the C.S.A. President's Personal Guard, which at that time was made up of men who had lost an arm but were otherwise able-bodied enough to perform the duty.
Paroled 6/21/1865 Richmond, VA.
On 12/1/1897, age 57, he was approved for a Confederate Pension of $30 per year. On 3/29/1898, he was accepted into the Robert E. Lee Camp Soldiers' Home due to "loss of arm and other wounds". He was admitted on 4/24/1898; died there.
The 47th Infantry Regiment was formed in June, 1861, with men recruited in Caroline, Middlesex, Essex, and Stafford counties. During February, 1865, the 47th and 55th Regiments were consolidated. (bio by: BigFrench)
