On 8/11/1893, as a 76 year-old widowed farmer living near his 2 daughters in Pasapatanzy, King George County, he applied for admittance into the Robert E. Lee Camp Soldiers' Home, Richmond, VA. due to "old age and infirmity caused by hardship and exposure during the war". He was approved 9/1893 and admitted 10/9/1893; died there.
