Verna, 80, a resident of Prospect Nursing Home in Bennington, VT, and formerly from Delhi, NY, died from complications of a stroke. She was born in Bovina, and was the daughter of Chauncey and Louise (Ruff) McFarland. She completed her elementary education in Bovina and went on to graduate from Delaware Academy in Delhi. She later graduated from beautician's school in New York City.
She was married to Raymond Tyler Secord, son of Irving and Eva Secord of East Branch. Raymond died in 1985.
For many years, Verna ran her own beauty salon and in later years assisted her husband in the operation of Ray's Liquor Store. She was a member of the Delhi Methodist Church and the Delhi Chapter of the Eastern Star.
Verna loved the outdoors. She was an avid walker and in the past, an avid skier. She spent many summer afternoons working in her vegetable and flower gardens.
Verna is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Robin of Bennington Vermont, and Tyler and Barbara of Moravia, a sister, Ann Smith of Greencastle, PA; her granddaughter, Kimberly Secord Kane and her husband Chris, of Shohola, PA; her grandson Sean Secord of Movravia; and her great-granddaughter, Madelaine Kane.
