William Buzbee was the first-born child of Miles and Prudence Smith-Buzbee. He was born circa 1827 in Orangeburg District, South Carolina. He had six brothers and two sisters, all of whom lived to maturity and married. William lived in what is now Aiken County. He died 17 December 1862, in General Hospital #1, Richmond, Virginia, from wounds received 13 Decemeber 1862 in the battle of Petersburg. William is buried in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Virginia. William married Jerusha Garvin who was born 5 April 1823 in Lexington County, the daughter of Joseph and Epsey McCarty Garvin. William and Jerusha were the parents of seven children: Gabriel Wesley, Elvina J., John R., Jerusha Eugenia, Bennett, James Emanuel, and William Tillman.

William's family erected a stone memorial to him in Wagener Cemetery, Wagener, South Carolina.

On a personal note: William was a first cousin to my GG Greatfather William Jasper Busby, also a confederate soldier, and both were grandsons to our most common father, Phillip Busby of Orangeburgh District, South Carolina.
