Birth: May 18, 1831
Steuben County
New York, USA
Death: Apr. 10, 1914
Graham County
Arizona, USA

Phebe Abbott was born to Abigail Smith and Stephen Joseph Abbott. Phebe married Captain James Brown of Company "C" of the Mormon Battalion. Phebe and James had three children: Phoebe Adelaide Brown, Orson Pratt Brown and Stephen Abbott Brown.

After her husband died she married William Nicol Fife. He was an architect. He designed the Ogden City Tabernacle among other buildings. His first wife was Diana Davis Fife and he next married Phebe's sister Cynthia Abbott.

The three families lived in Ogden, Utah until 1880, when they moved to eastern Arizona. They started up the Oak Grove Ranch north of Tucson, Arizona, near Thatcher. William was not content there. Moses Thatcher called for volunteers to establish and build the colonies in Mexico. Phebe's son Orson agreed to settle the Mormon colonies in Mexico. Something traggic happened and William's first wife was murdered on September 12, 1884.

He sold his ranch and returned to Ogden. Phebe went with her son Orson to settle the Mormon colonies in Mexico. Her sister, Cynthia ended up going to Utah with William . Later Cynthia and William divorced. First wife Diana was originally buried in Arizona but was reinterred to Ogden City Cemetery, Utah and buried in a spot with William.

Phebe and William apparently had three daughters: one died at birth and another from smallpox.

Only their daughter Cynthia Abigail Fife lived to maturity. Cynthia married Christopher Layton, son of Christopher Layton and Caroline Cooper Layton.

Phebe was a pioneer in Illinois, Utah, Arizona and Mexico. Phebe had lived with her son Orson for many years in Mexico and lived her last years with her daughter Cynthia Fife Layton in Arizona. She died January 9, 1915 in Thatcher, Arizona at 84 years of age.
