James Hilton, formerly of Wampum, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harmon Waid, of Warren, Ohio. He was born in England, October 15, 1845, and came to this country in 1872. He had been a resident of Lawrence county for 44 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hannah Hilton, and ten children as follows: Mrs. Charles Snyder and Mrs. David Hairhogger of Wampum, Mrs. Harmon Waid, Mrs. Samuel Atkinson of Warren, Ohio, Mrs. George Davis of Redmond; Mrs. Walter Foxall of Cleveland, Robert of Cannelton, Joseph of East Palestine, James of Mahoningtown, and Thomas of Wampum. He leaves also 42 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Interment was made at Clinton cemetery, and the pallbearers were six grandsons of the deceased, Charles, James, and William Snyder of Wampum, James Hilton of Mahoningtown, Robert Foxall of Cleveland, and Rolly Waid of Warren.
James was the son of William Hilton and Ellen Walsh.
James married Hannah Bowers on 18 Sept 1864, at the Church of St. Thomas, Parish of Werneth, Oldham, Lancashire, England.
