Taunton — Charles E. Farrell, 77, of Taunton died April 11, 2009, after a lengthy illness.
He was the son of the late Leo J. and Marquerite (Concannon) Farrell.
Mr. Farrell was born in Dighton and educated in Taunton, where he lived his entire life. He served his country during the Korean War in the Navy on the USS Allen M. Sumner as a medic from 1951-1954.
He was first employed at the Taunton Fire Department and then the Taunton Municipal Lighting Plant for many years. Mr. Farrell was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 82 and the VFW. He enjoyed playing pool and was known to many through his bartending in many local establishments.
He leaves five children, Robert C. of Taunton, James E. of Hyannis, Michael J. of Sandwich, John L. Farrell of Hyannis and Susan M. Ewing of Winter Haven, FL. Mr. Farrell also leaves 12 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a sister, W. Anne Quinzani of Wellesley; sister-in-law Jean Farrell of Middleboro; a former wife, Janet Farrell of Fort Myers, FL; and his longtime companion, Joan Descoteaux. His brother, Phillip J. Farrell, predeceased him.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Mary's Church in Taunton. Interment is in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Taunton.
