Absalom Horace Phears is the son of Absalom Phears and Sarah Jane Blankenship. The family settled in Washington County, Texas. Absalom Horace married first Mary Francis Clemons and second Nancy Lou Walston. Horace and Lou were married on Nov. 10, 1875. Horace and Lou were the parents of Rufus E. Phears, John Absalom Phears, and Addie Kirk Phears. Rufus and John died as children. Addie married John Hardy Smith.
Absalom Horace served during the Civil War in the Confederate Army as a Private in TX 35th Brown's Cavalry Co. C under Col. J. B. Likens and Lt. Col. Wm. Worsham. While stationed at Waul's Camp in Brenham, Texas, Horace contracted measles during an outbreak. The measles left him partially deaf.
Horace and Lou moved to Montgomery County about 1895, where he was a farmer.
