Attilio Romiti was a trusted family friend and employee.
He worked the bulk of his career in the United States for our family firm, Romberger Cast Stone. He did not retire until the firm closed in 1962.
He was a loyal friend, driver and employee, particularly to my grandfather Gilbert A. Romberger. Mr. Romiti saw him to his end, and attended his funeral, signing the funeral book.
He must have made a strong impression on my father as well. Even when my dad was very ill and confused, he had a physical therapist at the hospital whose last name was Attilio, and it stirred a smiling response from my father, who dredged up the name Attilio Romiti from the depths of his memory. I held onto that name for quite a while until I had the will to learn more.
Some time after my father's passing, I located Mr. Romiti's daughter and wife, and spoke with his daughter. I have a very old company photograph and hoped very much that one day she and her mom might be able to identify some of the folks in it... and tell me more about Attilio Romiti who was very well regarded by my family. Sadly, my mother fell into the vagaries of old age and required much care up to her death, and I did not have the chance to get back with Attilio's daughter before her mother passed at the wonderful age of 104.
His son in law is here.
