Leona was the daughter of William and Ellen (nee Geary) Cooperman. Leona's parents were married November 9, 1904, and her mom, only age 19, received the consent of her father Albert Geary. Leona was the wife of John C Ettinger whom she married in Bangor, PA on April 7, 1928. She was the mother of John Henry Ettinger, Esther Ellen (Ettinger) Nesley, and Nancy (Ettinger) Peters.

My mom remembers her Aunt Leona as a very sweet lady. She was also a lovely woman with striking blue eyes which her daughters inherited.

Aunt Leona's brother, Samuel E. Cooperman, aka "Sam" Cooperman was active in local government and athletics.

The Morning Call reported on February 21, 1988:

Mrs. Leona M. Ettinger, 83, formerly of 232 N. 18th St., Allentown, died Friday in the Phoebe Home, Allentown. She was the widow of John C. Ettinger.

She was a clerk at Freeman Jewelers and Hess's, both in Allentown, many years ago.

Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late William and Ella (Geary) Cooperman.

She was a member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, Allentown, where she was past president of both the Christian Endeavor Society and the Missionary Society and a Sunday school teacher for 45 years.

Surviving are a son, John H., and two daughters, Mrs. Esther E. Nesley and Nancy A., wife of Robert L. Peters, all of Allentown, and four grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Cemetery, Allentown. There will be no calling hours. The Trexler Funeral Home, 1625 Highland St., Allentown, is in charge of arrangements.
