|Birth: ||Feb. 7, 1896|
|Death: ||Jan. 21, 1965|
Daughter of Daniel H. Romberger and Minnie Kepler Romberger. Sister to Gilbert Allen Romberger and Edna Mae Romberger Gackenbach.
Amy's first marriage was to Charles Davies. In the early years of their marriage, she worked in millinery (hat making), and he was a salesman for the family business begun by her father Daniel, Romberger Cast Stone. Together they had a son Charles H Davies who died young, living only for one day.
Prior to young Charles' birth, the 1920 census shows Amy and her husband Charles living together at 21 9th Street in Allentown, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. (North or south is not noted.) Charles is listed as sales manager for a stone company, which would be Romberger Cast Stone, our old family business. She is 23, he is 30, thus born about 1890. The census says he was born in PA to a Welsh-born father and Pennsylvania-born mother.
Some time after the couple lost their son, their marriage failed. Amy was remarried to Charles Strobel. Together they had a daughter, Barbara Strobel.
Amy's original name may have been Anna, which certainly sounds more like a name a German-descent couple might have chosen for her. The reason this is possible is that a 1919 application for a marriage license in Philadelphia was found between Charles Davies and Anna I. Romberger. Why it was applied for there and not in Allentown is subject to speculation at this time, and leads me to wonder if the couple felt her parents would object to the marriage.
