HAYFIELD -- The funeral for Opal Alvira Evjen will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield with the Rev. Stephan Sandness officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Mrs. Evjen, 80, of Hayfield, a homemaker, died Monday morning (May 10, 1999) at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield.
Opal Alvira Hyland was born July 6, 1918, in Vernon Vownship, Dodge County. On Feb. 12, 1935, she married Howard Evjen at West St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Hayfield. Before moving to Hayfield she lived in Waltham and Austin. Mrs. Evjen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Joy Circle.
Survivors include four daughters, Shirley Catron of Eden Prairie, Minn., Bonnie Baxter of Burnsville, Minn., Carol (Mrs. Dennis) Dore of Rogers, Minn., and Pam (Mrs. Joe) Nolan of Plymouth, Minn.; three sons, Virgil and Ron, both of Hayfield, and Les of Hermantown, Minn.; 19 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elna Senjem of Hayfield and Lorraine Hart of Albuquerque, N.M.; and three brothers, Stan Hyland of Kasson, Dick Hyland of Hayfield and Bob Hyland of Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her husband, one grandchild; two great-grandchildren, two brothers and a sister.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Vernon-Czaplewski Funeral Home in Hayfield and an hour before the service Thursday at the church.
