NORMA MARY ARMSTRONG RIDDELL |

RIDDELL, NORMA MARY ARMSTRONG Norma Mary Armstrong Riddell, a Women's Royal Air Force veteran who came to Elmhurst, Illinois, via a troop ship, as a British War Bride in August, 1946 and moved to San Diego in 1953, died on August 12, 2010. A native of Toronto, Canada, Ms. Riddell moved with her family to Jamaica in 1929 in the hope that a warmer climate would improve her father's health. In 1936, the family moved to Bournemouth, England. In 1939, when World War II broke out, she joined the Women's Auxiliary Air Force, now known as the Royal Air Force. Ms. Riddell became a U.S. Citizen in 1950. She worked at San Diego State University from 1953 to 1966. In 1976, she returned to San Diego State University and received a B.A. in Recreation Therapy. Ms. Riddell is survived by her daughters, Norma Jean "Torri" Cable of San Diego and Marian L. Rogers of Cardiff by the Sea, and her sister Vira M. Lane of San Diego. Her brother, The Reverend Guy W. Armstrong predeceased her. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the many wonderful nurses and staff of St. Paul's McColl Family Health Center and the San Diego Hospice Crisis Care Team and their angel nurses for the incredible care they gave Norma and her family during her transition. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Norma's memory may be directed to the San Diego Hospice, 4311 Third Avenue, San Diego, CA 92103. Norma was a friend and mentor to many. Her humor and wisdom will be missed by all who loved her. Mom, you leave a wonderful legacy and we're proud to be your daughters.
