OBITUARIES
Alexander Glenn, Father of Utah Official, is Called by Death
Alexander Glenn, pioneer Indian War veteran, and father of John H. Glenn, director of the state department of finance and purchase, died at the family residence 652 south First West street, Monday evening.
He was born Oct 24, 1835 in Keroliston, near Edinburg, Scotland and emigrated with his parents to Utah in 1854, crossing the 1,000 mile of plains with their own ox team. On arriving in Salt Lake the family settled in the Fifth ward. A few years later, however, Mr. Glenn made his home in the Fourth ward, where he has since resided.
Mr. Glenn has been a consistent Latter-day Saint and was among those designated by President Brigham Young to remain on guard in Salt Lake at the time the Saints moved south in early days.
Later in life Mr. Glenn spent six months in southern Utah, having been called there to engage in the campaign against the Indians. Early in life he married Sarah Bond, who died leaving him seven children. He later married Lavinia Haigh, by whom he had 10 children and who died in 1900. In addition to his 17 children, Mr. Glenn is survived by 50 grandchildren and 13 (# unreadable) great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in the Fourth ward chapel, West Temple street and Seventh South street, Thursday at 2 p.m.
Interment will be in the City cemetery.
