Enlisted on February 1, 1864 at Halifax Court House, Virginia as a Private in the 3rd Virginia Cavalry, Company D at the age of 39. POW on August 16, 1864 at Front Royal, Virginia. Confined on August 29, 1864 at Elmira, New York. Died of disease as a POW.

Some time ago Hunter C. Anderson (now deceased) sent this picture of John Wilson Anderson to William H. Anderson (now deceased). I borrowed it to copy in 2001 and found that the original was reversed so used photo editing software to correct it. John was a Captain in the 69th Virginia Militia so this is his pre-Civil War Militia uniform. John was drafted into the Confederate military in 1864 and entered as a private in Co C, 3rd Virginia Cavalry.

Thanks to Capt. Steve Knott, USN (Retired) for providing John's militia information.

This picture was in the possession of William H. Anderson and was given to me after his death in 2007. It is on a sheet of copper and looks like someone hand painted the uniform on a picture of John or touched it up by hand. It was reversed like the photo in the frame and when I corrected it I noticed the bugle on the hat was changed to CS. He's in his Virginia Militia uniform, he was a Capt. in the 69 Regiment Virginia Militia before the Civil War and a Pvt. in Co C 3rd regiment (2nd Virginia Cavalry) CSA.
Capt. Steve Knott, USN,Retired, sent me John's Militia information.
