May 5, 1959 - Carroll Daily Times - George Hummel, 103, of Odebolt, stepfather of Mrs. John Vanderheiden Sr. of Carroll, died at 3:30 a.m. Monday at the Tryon Nursing Home, 109 North Main Street. He had lived at the nursing home 10 years and had been bedfast since suffering a broken hip about five years ago. The body is at the Huffman Funeral Home here, pending completion of arrangements. Funeral services and burial will be at Odebolt.
Mr. Hummel was born June 30, 1855, at Arlington, Iowa. He was a carpenter by trade. Mr. Hummel was the last of his family.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs Cora Vanderbilt, Hartington, Neb.; two sons, Harry Hummel, Cherokee, and William Hummel, Guthrie Center; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Joe Anderson, Odebolt; Mrs. W.H. Harrison, Chicago; Mrs. Evelyn Robinson, Minneapolis, and Mrs. Vanderheiden, Carroll; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Three sons are deceased, Loren Hummel, Danbury; Burnett Hummel, Odebolt, and Albert Hummel, Helena, Mont.
