William E. Fritz, Sr., 78, Lewisburg, died Tuesday, August 29, 2006, at Riverwoods, Lewisburg.
A long-time resident of Turbotville, he and his wife have been residing at Riverview Manor the past three years.
Born in Williamsport on May 31, 1928, he was the son of Margaret (Fritz) Diehl, of Riverview Manor, Lewisburg.
He was a high school graduate of the former Jefferson School, Williamsport.
On June 26, 1953 he married the former Ruth E. Brittain and they have celebrated 53 years of marriage.
Bill was employed at Cooper's Hardware, Turbotville for 27 years until retiring in 1992.
He was a former Turbotville Borough councilman and had served on the water authority; was a former member of Turbotville Lions Club and the Muffly-Huff Post #8206, VFW, Turbotville.
An avid fireman, he was a lifetime member of the Turbotville Fire Company where he was past-president, honorary chief, director/trustee and served on the investigating, nominating, carnival, ways and means, and apparatus committees. Earlier in life, he was a member of Keystone Hook and Ladder Company of Muncy before moving to Turbotville in 1965.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during the 1950's.
Bill was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Turbotville and the "Jolly Bunch" senior group there.
He loved hunting and loved tinkering with anything mechanical and was often an eager helper to local farmers with their equipment.
Surviving besides his wife and mother, both in Lewisburg, are two sons and daughters-in-law: William E., Jr. and Wanda Fritz, of Whitmoyer Road, Watsontown and Steven A. and Barbara Fritz of John Road, Watsontown; five grandchildren: Jason Fritz and his wife Crystie; Melinda Roy and her husband Jim; Brian, Eric and Todd Fritz; and a great-grandson, Micah Fritz.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Paradise Street, Turbotville, with the Rev. Erwin C. Roux, his pastor, officiating. Burial with military honors and a fireman tribute will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.
Friends are invited to call at Brooks Funeral Home, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and at the church from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Warrior Run Area Fire Dept., c/o Turbotville Fire Co., P.O. Box 8, Watsontown, PA 17777.
