Estella Margarette (Bangs) Czudek was born in Seattle, WA, USA in 1893 to Marshall D and Sarah Anna (Debault) Bangs. She married John Czudek in Pierce County, WA on 31-Dec-1917. The couple is listed in the 1930 US census living in King County, WA along with their adopted daughter, Viola Anna Czudek. The birth surname and circumstance of Viola's adoption are not known.

Stella's mother, Sarah Anna Debault was born in New York and was first married to Samuel Bardsley of England. She had three children, Robert T (1881), John (1884), and Mary F Bardsley (11-Apr-1885). These three children were born in Ohio according to the US Census and would be Stella's half-brothers and half-sister.

Stella and John traveled with the Al G Barnes Wild Animal Circus. She was a cashier and also billed as the "Petite Estelle" in a 11-Feb-1933 publicity photograph shown at the right. Family oral history says she appeared at the Utah State Fair in Salt Lake City, UT sometime before 1939. The circus would travel across the USA and Canada in the summer months and winter over in California. Some of the original circus wagons can be found at the Circus World Museum in Baraboo, Wisconsin.

On 2/26/2010 I discovered her death date and location using the online Washington State Digital Archive system. A single entry had been made about an obituary published in the Whidbey Record Newspaper. This information provided a fresh lead to discover additional information however the burial location remained elusive. There are 10 potential cemeteries in the Casper, Wyoming area and many more in the Seattle, Washington area.

Oral family history says Stella died under a doctor's care while on a weight reduction program. Step-daughter Betty Gene CZUDEK said her father John Czudek had "proved this in court". This civil action may have left a paper trail that can be discovered during further research. I have not pursued this avenue at this time (2014).

John Czudek would later marry Florence Dorothy BATES (about 1945) and this couple would have two children, Betty Gene and John Jr., both born in Orange, Texas in the late 1940's.

My next step will be to determine in which cemetery Estelle was buried. I welcome any additional information that can be found regarding Stella, her daughter Viola, or John Czudek, Sr.
