Mary A. Fox Montgomery Coffin
Mary Fox married Samuel Montgomery on September 5, 1839 in Hendricks County, Indiana. Samuel died between 1847 and 1850.
In 1850, the widowed Mary Montgomery was living in Brown Township, Hendricks County. She had 4 children, Mahala Jane (age 10), Sarah E. (6), Mary Ann (4) and James S. (3).
Mary remarried to Nathaniel Coffin on November 27, 1851 in Hendricks County.
In 1860, Mahala Jane, Sarah Ellen, Mary Ann and James were recorded in the Census records with the last name Coffin and were still in Brown Township. Mahala and Sarah were indicated as servants. There were two more children living with them in 1850. They were George Coffin (age 7) and Dele Ann Coffin (age 11). George may have been Mary and Nathaniel's son, but Dele was probably Nathaniel's daughter from a prior marriage. He was 12 years Mary's senior.
In 1870, she and Nathan were in Lincoln Township. Only Sarah and George were still living at home. Mary's mother-in-law from her first marriage, Mary Montgomery (age 88 from North Carolina) was also living with them.
By 1880, Mary was widowed again. She was living next door to her daughter, Mary Ann, and Mary Ann's husband, John H. Davis. Sarah Ellen was still living with her.
In 1900, Mary was living in Washington Township, Hendricks County, with her widowed daughter, Mary Davis, and Mary Davis' children, Emmett (born July 1877), Emery (July 1877) and Ora M. (June 1869). Both Emery and Ora were married and their wives were living there as well.
