Demarcus Lafayette Kidd, the eldest child of George and Mary Kidd, joined the 48th VA Infantry as "D.L Kidd", Private, Co. C, in Scott County, VA. He was captured during the Battle of the Wilderness in 1864. He was released from a POW camp in Elmira, NY, at the end of the Civil War and returned to Scott Co, VA.
